    Description:
    Colocasia- Elephant ear or taro. is a member of the aracaea or aroid family. They have a spadix and spathe type of flower followed by a berry. Historically grown as a staple food item throughout the tropics, they are now grown largely for their striking large flat, heart-shaped leaves which arise singly from a sturdy fleshy petiole that is reddish in color. They give the garden a bold, tropical look. This is a manageable, medium sized colocasia with dark green leaves with lighter green veining. This plant likes food and water. They can be grown in a bog or as a pond emergent or in a container rich in organic matter that is well watered. During the growing season new, larger leaves are produced as older ones die off. In colder climates the corms need to be brought in for the winter. If planted in a container they can be kept growing all winter as a houseplant or dried in a paper bag like dahlias.
