Vintage and Signed, Mollica, bottom has the blue crown, blue N
Here is a large signed and bottom marked Capodimonte figurine of a mother and son at a wood stove roasting chestnuts. She is guarding his hand from touching the hot chestnuts. A white cat is purring contentedly in the mother’s lap.
The detail is astounding in soft natural colors, very expressive facial features,
the logs next to the stove, the stove itself, the fringe on the shawl, the boy hiding a chestnut behind his back, the rips in his pants, etc.
All fingers are intact.
Approx 19 cm in height. The figurine has a width of approx 21 cm. Thanks for looking.
Carlo Mollica , Capodimonte - Atmospheric image - Stoneware An atmospheric Italian Capodimonte figurine by the famous designer Carlo Mollica.
The piece has an original
incised Mollica signature
on the base, as well as
Capo Di Monte "N" with blue Crown mark stamp on the bottom
, see pic. Attributed most likely back to the 1930's - 1950's, in Naples.
Carlo Mollica is the descendant of his family line ( the original Mollica firm was set up in Naples, at Capodimonte,in 1842 by Giovanni Mollica). His work in the traditional 19th century statuary style spans the period from the 20's and 30's and onward after WWII.He exhibited at the Fiera di Milano in 1938. But after the war he moved to Milan and later returned to Naples. If there is a crown mark it suggests a piece made in Naples.
