1. Prepare the soil to grow Cowpea Bean
Cowpea Bean
is not picky about soil, but requires well-drained, loose soil, preferably light soil, rich in organic matter, pH 6 -7.
The land is plowed and then dried for at least 1 week. Apply lime powder with the amount of 800 – 1,000 kg/ha, and at the same time treat the soil with Basudin 10H, spread evenly before milling the soil to limit pests from the soil. Then proceed to loosen the soil, remove weeds.
Raised beds: High or low bed depends on topsoil, groundwater level and planting season. The fields with high ground water level, in rainy season, are raised to higher beds to prevent waterlogging. Normally, the height of the beds for the summer-autumn crop is 30 cm, the autumn-winter crop is 25 cm, and the winter-spring and spring-summer crops are 18-20 cm. The bed is 90-100 cm wide, the trench is 30-40 cm wide.
Fertilizer before sowing: Each hectare: 10-15 tons of rotting manure or 1-1.5 tons of Biogro organic fertilizer, 250 kg of Lam Thao phosphate, 50 kg of potassium chloride.
2. Density, seeding distance Cowpea Bean Plants
Sow 2 rows in beds, rows 60-65 cm apart, seeds 10-15 cm apart. After sowing, cover the seeds with soil 1 cm thick, then water lightly on the bed surface. The amount of seed 25-35 kg/ha depends on the variety and germination rate of the seed. If the seed size is large, the germination rate is low, the amount of seeds should be increased.
Seeds before sowing should be soaked in warm water (2 boiling, 3 cold) for about 1 hour, then taken out, incubated in a damp towel. Check the seeds once a day and spray with additional water and then continue to incubate until the seeds crack, then sow.
Note: avoid watering too much after sowing, seeds absorb water quickly, tearing seed coats, seeds cannot grow Cowpea Bean plants.
