EASY PLANTING INSTRUCTIONS:
You can use a sunny “nursery” area to plant the seeds covering them lightly with soil in the fall and watch the baby plants develop in the spring. I highly recommend putting in a garden marker with the name of the flower, so that you can identify the seedlings later and not disturb them. You can transplant the little bulbs later to a different location in the garden if you like. ** You can also do as nature does, DIRECT SOW in Fall and scatter them for naturalizing.
They may take 2-3 years from seed to full 12-14 cm size bulb and 3-3 ½ foot VERY TALL bloom, but it is an exciting & rewarding process to experience. You will be really proud of your amazing flowers, which will then naturalize, multiply, & seed themselves.
You will have clumps of gorgeous flowers that YOU started from seed and nurtured.
LESS EASY PLANTING INSTRUCTIONS: If you really want to start them indoors, you can start about 2 months before the last frost date.
Scatter seed on a quality seed starting mix & cover them lightly with some of the mix. Mist or moisten mix & put seed tray in a plastic bag to keep moist. Keep it indoors at about 70°F for 2-3 weeks. Move seeds outside to a sheltered location in winter when temperatures are still freezing. Seeds should begin germinating when temperatures begin to warm. You can then transplant the seedlings into your garden when they get bigger.
